AIM-PACE: Artificial Intelligence-Designed Thermoplastic Materials for Sustainable Packaging and Electronics
Programa: HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025
Duración: 48 months, June 2026 – May 2030
Partners: VTT (coordinator), University of Bayreuth, LIST, CO2BioClean, Sabio, PLUX, Unimos, Zero Emissions Engineering, Tecnopackaging, Bio-Mi, PIEP, GO!PHA, Progroup, Biotrend.
Objective: AIM-PACE aims to create new sustainable, bio-based plastics to replace fossil-based materials in packaging and electronic devices. To do this, the project combines artificial intelligence, biotechnology and materials science, while using agricultural and industrial waste to produce high-value bioplastics. These materials will be used, for example, in pharmaceutical packaging, components for wearable devices and packaging solutions for electronics.
In short, AIM-PACE focuses on three main goals:
1. To design, with the help of artificial intelligence, bioplastics with improved properties such as strength, processability and biodegradability, so they can replace conventional plastics.
2. To ensure these materials are truly circular: using fewer resources, being reusable, recyclable or compostable, and having a lower environmental impact at the end of their life.
3. To prove that these bioplastics can be more sustainable and competitive than traditional materials by reducing emissions, water and energy use, and production costs.
Tecnopackaging’s role is the development and validation of PHA-based pill organisers (rigid packaging for the pharmaceutical sector).
